Character List




  • Mr. Jones: Orwell's chief (villain)


  • Old Major: first major character


  • Moses: most intriguing character..described as "especial pet" because he doesn't work. Only character who doesn't listen to Old Major's speech.


  • Snowball: Pig similiar to Napoleon, in the early stages. Wanted a leadership posotion in the "new" economic and political system.


  • Napoleon: chief villain. He is a pig and the really central character on the farm.


  • Boxer: the name is clevery used. Represent the proletariat.


  • Squealer: an intriguing character. described as manipulator and persuader.


  • Mollie: Minor character, but she represents something important. Animal who is more opposed to the new government.


  • Benjamin: An elderly donkey, most elusive and intriguing characters. Described as rather unchanged since the rebelion.

  • Muriel: a goat reads comandments for clover. he represents minority of working class people.

  • Frederick: neighbor of Animal Farm. becomes an enemy.

  • Pilkington: another neighbor

  • Pigs: surround and support Napoleon. symbolize communist party loyalists and the friends of Stalin.

  • Rats: represent opposition to the Bolsheciks.included in the rebellion.

  • Dogs: represent the KGB bodyguards of Stalin. arch-defenders

  • Pigeons: symbolize Soviet propaganda to other countries not Russia.
